This golf course is a real unknown gem. Especially within my social circle. I was only lucky enough to happen upon it through a family vacation. Located in Eerste Rivier in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, this course is a must see. The condition of the course and your score at the end of the day should be the furthest of your worries. If you are looking for a retreat from the hustle and bustle of life and enjoy the outdoors for its simplicity, this is a must go-to. There is fishing to be done and even a few adrenaline junkie activities for you to try once you have enjoyed the golf enough.
I do not recommend playing this course if you need everything perfectly manicured like the King’s croquet lawns. This place still feels wild. Which makes it home to a few springbok, a blesbok and a confusion of guinea fowl. This is a place where you can go on a wonderful day and simply take in the scenery and enjoy being in a place in the world with views not many have seen. While playing I was personally given an opportunity to watch a pod of whales sneezing out on the ocean. This was made even better by the fact that I was doing this while spending some quality time with my dad.
How to get there
It is located on the garden route near the Titsikamma bridge. Accommodation near the course is a possibility on booking.com which will give you some airBnB type options. Again, I would suggest you rent a vehicle to give you the freedom of movement.
Price and rating
At R150 it is amazing value for money. The golf course itself may not be in pristine condition, but the views and experience you will get are worth every single penny. In fact, I might even pay double, just for the views of the scenery you are constantly surrounded by. Although not in the best condition, the wildlife and scenery more than makes up for it, a solid 7 toes out of ten.
